Würth adopts RFID system for automatic sorting production line
[ad_1]
Würth Oy is a Finnish tool and equipment supplier and has adopted RFID technology since 1995. The purpose is to automate the sorting production line. Through several years of practice, huge economic benefits have been achieved, mainly from the reduction of errors, the saving of labor costs, and the higher efficiency of sorting operations.
Würth first introduced the RFID system 15 years ago. This is a low-frequency RFID system. It is a patented technology and relies on a special hardware reader. Later, the reader manufacturer stopped producing the varieties needed by Würth, and Würth could not get the spare parts needed by the system, which caused huge problems. The new solution comes from Vilant Systems, a Finnish RFID system supplier. The new system has always worked reliably and belongs to Ultra High Frequency (UHF) Gen2 RFID.
The automatic sorting production line consists of a 1.5km conveyor belt, more than 20 sorting stations, and more than 40 RFID readers. The RFID reader recognizes the tagged storage boxes and guides them to the correct sorting station on the conveyor belt. The tag chip of the storage box is UPM Raflatac Web, and the reader is ThingMagic Astra. Close to 40,000 objects are tracked and identified through RFID every day.
The sorting line works in two shifts, working five days a week, and 70% of the factory’s daily order tasks need to be completed through the sorting line. The sorting line is vital to the daily operation of the Würth plant and does not allow any unplanned downtime. The system provided by Vilant Systems can ensure that the hardware, software, and project engineering are constantly updated, without stopping the production without interrupting the production. Reliable work and easy maintenance are the two key indicators for the Würth plant to evaluate and select the new system. With Vilant Server 5 device management and device monitoring functions, Würth’s requirements for the new system have been fully met.
