The technology was successfully implemented in BMW’s winter parking lot. Fields Automotive Group, located in Orlando, Florida, installed RFID solutions provided by MyDealerLot at its 10 distribution locations in Chicago and the southeastern United States. The application of RFID technology in winter parking lots has greatly improved the efficiency of a series of services such as parking, car washing, and rental for customers.

MyDealerLot’s automated customer identification and communication system includes Squiggle passive EPC Gen2 RFID tags provided by Alien, ALR-9900+ readers and plasma screens to display information about arriving customers, as well as related data software.

Reader at the entrance of the service area

Joe Allegra, the service manager of BMW’s winter parking lot, said: The solution is mainly to improve customer service during the testing phase. BMW dealers are committed to providing customers with high-quality services. When cars arrive at the venue, they can identify customers in time and welcome them. In order to win more customers, dealers provide free car wash and maintenance services. Normally, it serves 100-125 vehicles per day.

In order to improve service efficiency and increase the accuracy of identifying customers, the dealer and MyDealerLot have put radio frequency identification technology into pilot applications. The company installed RFID readers at the entrance of the service area and the entrance of the car wash.

MyDealerLot also provides a large screen that displays the customer list, so that the staff can browse detailed information such as the customer’s name to better serve them.

UHF RFID tags are affixed to the windshields of new cars sold or vehicles entering the service area. Each tag stores a unique ID number, and associates the tag’s code, vehicle identification number (VIN), and owner’s name with the ID of the MyDealerLot software. Automobile purchase records and the types of services provided will also be successively stored in the database.

When the customer enters the service area, the ALR-9900+ reader reads the tag and forwards the unique number of the tag to the independent software. After the software is processed, the customer’s name is displayed on the plasma screen in the service area, and a special tone reminds the staff that the new customer has arrived. At the same time, the software will also send customer arrival information to sales staff in the form of text messages or e-mails, and urge sales staff to stop the current service in a timely manner to welcome the next customer.

RFID antenna in car wash service area

In the BMW service area, customers can use 62 rental cars for free, all of which are affixed with UHF Gen 2 RFID tags. When a customer is assigned to a car, his name is stored in the background software along with the vehicle’s ID number. After returning the car, the supervisor in the service area will receive the corresponding email or text message. On the other hand, the vehicle will also be identified during cleaning or maintenance, and its status will be listed on the screen in the maintenance area.

After the customer returns the car, the receptionist displays the corresponding customer information on the screen, and calculates the cost to be paid by the customer before the customer arrives at the checkout counter, thereby improving the work efficiency of the staff and reducing the waiting time of the customer. This system helps It is rare to see customers waiting in line.

Approximately 5,000 cars in the BMW Winter Park service area use this label. Another 9 dealerships plan to install such systems.
