More than 40 Norwegian stores are using the cost-effective radio frequency identification system provided by the Front system to better manage inventory data. Front Systems is offering to other small retail stores such as fashion boutiquesRFIDSolutions to help them reduce the manual work in the inventory counting process and ensure that the goods appear where they need to appear. Tara-Espen Dronsett, Follestad and Hyer are the three early adopters. As of the beginning of this month, a total of 41 stores have deployed this system. Since the Front system entered the RFID field in 2012, the company’s annual revenue has doubled every year.

Front Systems was established in 2009 as a company that initially provided point-of-sale (POS) software for small and medium-sized enterprises. In early 2010, after observing the application of RFID solutions in retail stores, the company began to study EPC Gen 2 UHF RFID technology.

For small and medium-sized retailers, finding a cost-effective inventory tracking solution is a big problem. Manual inventory takes a long time, and stores often need to suspend business. To make matters worse, despite the time spent, manual inventory often makes mistakes.

Therefore, the goal of the Front system is to develop low-cost, fast-installable solutions. Lpsmark said: “Our view is that RFID technology is not only available to large stores.”

To this end, the Front system tested a variety ofReaderAnd labels. Next, the company developed inventory management software that can be integrated with the POS system.

The solution is equipped with the ALN-9728 “GT” RFID tag provided by Alien Technology, the UHF RFID handheld reader provided by Nordic ID, and the desktop reader S1 from Sampo. The Sampo S1 installed on the sales counter can be used to read product tags (so far, only one store has used this feature).

The Front system software is stored on the user client, and the data can be transmitted remotely via the Internet. This allows retailers to view inventory data in any office.

Most retail stores are using Zebra Technologies’ RZ400 RFID printer to print RFID labels and stick them on their goods. Each RFID tag carries a unique ID number.

Thanks to the Cross Dipole reader, employees can perform regular inventory in the store. Sampo’s reader can also be used in different ways (such as querying tag information).

Normally, the information read by the handheld reader can be transmitted to the background software provided by the Front system via WiFi. When a customer makes a purchase, the POS software can transmit the data to the system software and update the inventory status in real time. In this way, store administrators can view the quantity of inventory in real time. If RFID is used in the warehouse, managers can also find missing items.

Some retailers have also installed fixed RFID readers at store entrances. When the unpaid goods are taken out of the store, the system will automatically send out an alert.

Hyer’s CFO Inge Nygaard said: “In order to have a clearer understanding of the inventory status, we have deployed an RFID system. Using this system, we can know the inventory status of 8 branches in real time. In addition, cost saving is also a key factor. Norwegian labor costs are increasing. The more expensive, the use of RFID can reduce the manpower input.”

Nygaard said that the benefits of RFID technology cannot be measured immediately. He said: “The benefits are yet to come. We are constantly adjusting the use of technology to make it more suitable for our business. The company’s goal is to eliminate all manual inventory checks in retail stores.”

Lpsmark said that, based on customer feedback, the accuracy of inventory counting has risen from 70% to 99%. He added: “We are looking for overseas expansion, and we want to bring this technology to Europe and North America.”
