At Magna Steyr, as many as 1,800 vehicles are loaded and unloaded every day. This is because approximately 200,000 vehicles are produced every year. In order to meet this logistics challenge, the company proposed a concept of a truck control system with access control and factory gate automation, which was combined with Sicalis RTL (Current Location System) based on transceiver recognition and Siemens’ tracking system Moby R. Realize the function.

The entire truck transportation control in the factory is fully electronic and can be achieved without paper records. The transport truck first arrives at a waiting parking spot, and then registers at the product reception area, and at the same time it gets a Moby R label that can realize the “electronic entrance pass” function.

The vehicle registration number and unloading location are clearly displayed on the large LCD display

All control of truck traffic in the factory is fully electronic through Moby R

The truck is registered through the Moby R tag, and all relevant information is stored. Only by clicking the mouse, the unloader can realize the filtering and specific search functions. Immediately, the vehicle registration number and unloading location can be clearly displayed on two large LCD panels. At the same time, the entrance of the truck into the factory and its precise transportation route were also determined. If there is no entry certification, a security alarm will be triggered. When the truck leaves the factory, it is necessary to ensure that the Moby R is recycled, and that there is no accidental cargo left in the factory that poses a safety hazard.

This new control system can also better control many logistics processes: there will be no more chaos in loading and unloading in the factory, because all trucks are under centralized control. According to the truck’s location and capacity, the entrance can be determined to avoid transportation congestion (emergency transportation has priority over standard transportation). Therefore, production benefits from an optimized and timely transportation process, while reducing the average time it takes for trucks to enter and exit. This not only improves the transportation conditions in the factory, but also improves the efficiency of the transportation company.

The data obtained can be easily verified based on surveys of each company. These data can also reduce the possibility of disputes with manufacturers about damage complaints.

Sicalis RTL can also provide many extended functions: for example, the system can accurately find vehicles, standardize truck loading and unloading processes, real-time monitoring and recording of information and data. The fixed “remote sensing tag” can be used to transmit and process data through the radio equipment on the vehicle body. In this way, whenever a vehicle passes through the entrance gate, its distance and fuel tank level can be automatically registered, accurately calculated, and directly assigned to the calculation center.
