Dailem-Chrysler Co., Ltd. is using RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) tags to promote its efficiency in the car manufacturing line, but the cost of this technology still needs to be further reduced. Sue Unger, the company’s senior vice president and chief information officer Said on Wednesday.

The German car manufacturer attaches RFID tags to the chassis of each car during manufacturing, and it can automatically transmit data, such as the color that the car will be painted on, Sue Unger said.

“But although the cost of these small tags is only $0.50, the other parts of the system, such as the metal box that packs each tag, bring the total cost of the system to almost $20 per car,” she said, “if the cost is It can really be reduced to about 50 cents, and it will enable us to do more amazing things with RFID.”

Like other manufacturers, Dailem also uses tags to track supplies and prevent its inventory from being lost or stolen, she said.

Dalem is also an avid fan of video conferencing, using it to improve communication among the company’s 362,000 employees. Companies can use this technology to hold more than 100 meetings in a day, and the travel and other expenses avoided as much as 14 million U.S. dollars in a year.

Communication is the biggest challenge the company faces. The company has 104 manufacturing plants in 37 countries. Dailem uses Web interface technology to enable engineers working in different countries to work together on a project, she said.
