Introduction-Intelligent RFID Library
1.1 The global development and application of RFID libraries
The application of RFID systems in libraries has a history of about 10 years. According to Checkpoint statistics, as of 2005, more than 440 libraries worldwide have adopted RFID technology, and this number rose to 2,000 in 2007.
The National Library of Singapore is the first representative of Asia to use RFID technology. It can be said that the use of RFID in libraries is already a relatively mature product and is promoting the development of library automation.
In China, the Chengyi College Library of Jimei University is the first domestic library to deploy an RFID system. It was put into use in February 2006. This is a milestone in the application of RFID in Chinese libraries. Its successful operation provides other libraries with For reference, the significance can be described as far-reaching. The new building of Shenzhen Library has also deployed an RFID system, which opened for trial operation in July 2006. The National Library and Hangzhou Library both conducted RFID system project bidding in early 2008, and the project deployment will be completed and put into use in 2008.
More and more libraries have realized the changes that RFID has brought to libraries. Most public libraries and university libraries in China have begun to plan RFID systems, such as Shanghai Pudong Library, Shanghai Library, Nanjing Library, Zhejiang Province Library, etc., since the first RFID library in 2006, there have been 12 RFID libraries in China.
1.2 An ideal and modern library
What does an ideal, modern library look like?
Let’s imagine!
A. If you are a reader
Walking into the clean and tidy lobby of the library, you only need to come to the self-service borrowing and returning equipment, and easily find out the book you need on the touch screen. According to the prompt, you go directly to a certain row of bookshelves and take out the book. Then read your library card and book before the self-checking device, and you can leave with the book. You do not need to contact anyone to complete the entire borrowing process, which is fast and convenient. Readers returning and borrowing books are as convenient and fast as depositing and withdrawing money on a 24-hour ATM in a bank.

And when you need to return a book, you no longer need to worry about going to the library when you are busy with work. The 24-hour self-service book return device can help you return books anytime, anywhere, and easily solve all your worries! What you have to do Maybe it’s just a recharge when the amount on the library card is insufficient.

B. If you are a librarian
You no longer need to be too busy when counting or organizing books, and wasting a lot of time to find a book. The mobile intelligent librarian assistant can help you easily complete the tedious tasks such as putting on the shelves, ordering the shelves, and counting, and readers need help You can easily find the location of any book, and you don’t have to worry about someone leaving the book without registration. Any book that has not completed the borrowing procedure will be notified when it passes through the smart security door. Your job is just leisurely. While drinking coffee, check out what is wrong when the smart security door alarms.

C. If you are the director of the library
The library RFID system can help you expand the circulation of books, improve library management and service standards, and make it a reality for the library to transform from a book regulator to an interpreter of knowledge. What you have to do is to expand the library’s cultural business functions. Make it more humane and fun, so as to move faster to a clustered library.

2 Innovation brought by library RFID system
2.1 Simplify the process of borrowing and returning books
Although the existing book borrowing and returning process introduces a barcode scanning system, it still needs to manually open the book’s title page and find the position of the barcode before scanning the barcode. Such an operation process is relatively cumbersome, and the efficiency of borrowing and returning books is low. At the same time, the barcode is easy to break, and it often happens that the barcode cannot be read and the barcode needs to be replaced. This will not only affect the efficiency of borrowing and returning books, but also affect the reader’s satisfaction with the library.
Therefore, it is urgent to introduce advanced reading and writing technology to realize the intelligent book borrowing and returning process, improving the security of information storage, the reliability of information reading and writing, and the speed and speed of borrowing and returning books.
2.2 Reduce the workload of inventory and search
Relying on manual book inventory work, the workload is large and the efficiency is low. Administrators have to classify, place and record books based on their own memory, which is time-consuming and difficult to achieve. It is necessary to introduce advanced technology to realize the intelligentization of book inventory.
2.3 Improve the security of the anti-theft system
The accuracy of the existing library magnetic stripe anti-theft system is low, and the magnetic stripe is easily weakened, so the probability of false alarms and false alarms is high. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the existing book anti-theft system and adopt more reliable anti-theft technology.
2.4 Change the disconnection between borrowing management and security and anti-theft
The library anti-theft system is still an isolated system. Books must be magnetized before being returned and put on shelves, and demagnetized when they are loaned out. The workload is heavy, which directly affects the efficiency of book circulation and management. It is impossible to record the information of the stolen books while discovering the theft, which has a great impact on the daily inventory and replenishment of books.
Therefore, it is necessary to improve the existing management system, link the anti-theft system with the book circulation management system, and record the historical record of each book in and out of the library, so that it can be matched with the historical record of borrowing and returning books.
2.5 Improve the satisfaction of library staff
Due to the repetitive work of the library staff over the years and the heavy workload of the library itself, it is easy for the library staff to have certain negative thoughts about the work of the library; due to the flaws in the management, the library management The readers are also very troubled, and the readers are also dissatisfied with the library, resulting in a decrease in the satisfaction of library staff with the work of the library. Through the technical transformation of the library management system, technical means can be used to make up for the shortcomings in management, and at the same time liberate the staff from the heavy daily work of the library.
2.6 Improve readers’ satisfaction with borrowing and returning books
Readers often feel dissatisfied with the library. The main reasons are as follows:
1) The efficiency of borrowing and returning books is low, the waiting time in line is too long, and the unnecessary waste of time leads to dissatisfaction of readers;
2) The bar code of the borrowed and returned book cannot be read, which increases the waiting time of the reader and causes the reader to be dissatisfied;
3) Since the library does not have effective means to inventory books, readers found a certain book in the collection through the query system, but it took a long time to find it. The reason may be that the book was stolen, but because of management The system does not have accurate records, and as a result, readers are not satisfied with the library;
Through the above analysis, it can be concluded that many problems in current library management and many inconveniences for readers in borrowing and returning books are caused by the defects of the barcode technology currently used. If RFID is used, many functions that cannot be achieved by barcode technology can be realized, thereby improving the function and system reliability of the library’s management system.
3 System construction goals
Build an RFID library. The RFID system is used to identify, track, and protect all library materials, realize unmanned book borrowing and return, and intelligentize the shelf, search, and collection inventory. The purpose is to greatly improve the efficiency of library materials processing.
