The Application of “One Card” in Library Information Construction
[ad_1]
The rapid development of computer technology has made it more and more widely used in all walks of life. As a base for delivering useful talents to the society, colleges and universities must take the lead in computer network technology. Therefore, the construction and popularization of campus networks is imminent. The university library is known as the “heart of the university”, so the importance of information construction is particularly prominent. The network construction of the library is a complicated system project, which can integrate various functions together, and use the “all-in-one card” system in the library, which not only saves costs, but also improves service efficiency; it is conducive to unified management in the library. , And convenient for readers. As a newly merged university, our school has been expanding its enrollment scale and the number of students has increased dramatically. It has put forward higher requirements for the science, standardization, and effectiveness of student management. The digital construction of our school’s library is still in its infancy, and a series of services aimed at readers’ needs in the new era are still being explored and learned. There have been setbacks in the development process and a lot of experience has been accumulated. The following is a brief introduction to the application of the “all-in-one card” system in our school library, in order to communicate with colleagues.
1 Reader management
The university library is the information center and distribution center of the university. It serves a wide range of objects: teachers, students, office staff, and off-campus readers. After the merger, our school was divided into two major campuses. There are more than 15,000 teachers and students. The library is also divided into two parts: the east and west colleges. The student majors of the east and west colleges are very different. The West Campus is dominated by engineering. The dispersion of student disciplines and library areas has brought great inconvenience to the unified management of the library. In view of the above characteristics, the library’s management of readers’ information at all levels must rely on a unified system to complete.
Before the merger, the two schools worked independently, using old-fashioned card-based information management. This is a traditional and inefficient management model, and it has been deeply rooted in the minds of managers. With the progress of library automation, this old manual model is increasingly unable to meet the needs of the current information society development. Sometimes, in order to inquire about a student, the staff have to search through the mountains of cards for a long time, and in the end they may not get satisfactory results. In addition, the card is easily defaced and lost, and the information it contains is extremely limited, which cannot meet the needs of readers at all.
After the merger, the digital reform of the library was carried out, and the new and effective unified management of reader information was carried out, which gave birth to the “all-in-one card” system of our library. It provides the unique identification for readers to enjoy information services in the library. A card corresponds to a reader. The card contains detailed information of each reader, such as personal data, information on borrowing and returning documents, overdue and violation fines, and so on.
2 The concept of “all-in-one card” in the museum
The “all-in-one card” in the library refers to the use of all-in-one card management in the library’s internal loan, reading, and Internet services. These service items are personalized services for readers based on the department or reading room. Traditional library reader services are mainly ordinary borrowing services, and the reader card is considered to be a library card. In fact, with the deepening of the library’s informatization construction, various thematic reading rooms, reference consultations, and online electronic services have also been launched one after another. How to unify the planning and management of the service rules and charges of each department of the library, so that readers can truly “use one card” is a difficult problem that every library must face. The “all-in-one card” in the library is to use a card to enable readers to selectively enjoy a series of services developed by the library. On the one hand, it can meet the growing management needs of various departments of the library, and on the other hand, it can provide library reader services. “Personalization”.
3 Introduction to the “One Card” System PVC Card
The “One Card” design of our library uses ordinary non-contact PVC cards as the information carrier, which is similar to the general-purpose PVC cards in the society. It is a simple card that directly prints a bar code on the PVC medium and reads the card number through a bar code reader. It is characterized by low cost, long life, and easy operation. Since the literature itself is also identified by barcode, it is especially suitable for manual (non-self-service) borrowing and returning of books. Each service desk only needs a barcode reader. The visual information of the card includes: school logo, reader’s personal photo, name, unit and serial number; internal information includes reader’s age, detailed unit, address, communication method, issuance date and information service in the library. These can be displayed on the computer through the reader, and through the campus network and the library homepage, readers can check their own borrowing status by entering the number anytime and anywhere. The “All-in-one card” in our library is printed with one-sided color coating, and the background is processed with photos of our library. The production is relatively beautiful. In terms of performance, it is simple and safe. It is fast and accurate to read information with a special reader. It can be used in all departments in the library. The cost of the reader is low and the maintenance is very convenient.
4 “One Card” function in the museum
4.1 Access Control System
The library of our school has a wide range of documents and materials, with a collection of millions of books of various kinds, thousands of expired and current newspapers and periodicals, and a considerable number of electronic CDs, tapes, and so on. The daily workload is also very large, and the number of readers inside and outside the school is huge every day. For the sake of safety and to facilitate the management and understanding of the readers of the library, the access control system is indispensable. Achieving readers to enter the library to swipe their cards to register is also a statistics of daily reader traffic. The system will automatically record the time and frequency of each reader who enters the library. In addition, the staff can also adopt the system of entering the library by swiping card to check attendance.
4.2 Circulation and reading
With the “all-in-one card”, readers can freely enter and exit any reading room and library for literature borrowing, returning and reading activities. In these departments, readers can borrow a corresponding amount of literature based on their own “all-in-one card” level, such as overdue, lost, defaced literature or other violations in the borrowing and returning process, they must also bear a certain amount of compensation. Register in the personal information of the “all-in-one card”. In their free time, managers can perform data analysis, check the loan and return status of any reader at any time, and take relative measures.
4.3 Search and consultation
Readers can independently search for information by entering their own “all-in-one card” card number on the automatic retrieval system configured in the library, and can also check their own borrowing status by logging in to the library’s homepage and campus network. If you have any difficulties, you can also seek help from staff who specialize in searching and consulting tasks.
4.4 Sharing of online resources
Our library is building a brand new and highly professional website, integrating reader services, digital resources, management communities, and library forums to form a large-scale online professional information exchange platform. To this end, we spent a lot of money to introduce three well-known large-scale databases in the industry, namely, Weipu, Chaoxing, and China Academic Journals, which provide free resource sharing and download services for teachers and students throughout the school, allowing readers to click on the mouse at home or at work. Can find the information you need. As long as readers use their own “one-card” number and their own password, they can log in to the library’s website on any computer to view and download digital resources, which is extremely convenient and practical.
5 Application Prospects and Defects of “One Card”
With the accelerating process of library digitization, the role of “all-in-one card” information system has become increasingly obvious, forming an important part of campus networking. The use of the library “all-in-one card” allows teachers, students and staff throughout the school to share various documents and information in the library, and promotes the speed and scope of information exchange. With the “all-in-one card” in hand, readers can travel to every corner of the library and have a sweeping view of the information world. However, the functions of the “all-in-one card” have not yet been fully utilized, and there are still many imperfections, especially the storage and encryption functions of the most popular contactless IC cards on the market. In addition, with the construction of campus network, how to achieve a reasonable and smooth connection with the campus “all-in-one card” is also an urgent problem to be solved.
6 Improve the quality of librarians to meet the requirements of modern libraries
Libraries under the network environment put forward higher requirements for librarians. Changes in the technical environment have changed the traditional role of librarians. The quality of librarians directly determines the success of the library’s digital construction. The “all-in-one card” system is a new thing after all. It fundamentally breaks the traditional information management model. It uses a material medium (PVC card or IC card) as a medium for identity authentication, information storage, stored-value consumption and information transmission, and a computer and its network communication technology as an information platform for the software supporting environment. This requires librarians to master computer operations and related network knowledge to a certain level, comprehensively improve their business capabilities, improve their knowledge structure, continue to learn and innovate, and adapt to the requirements of library modernization.
In short, the application of the “One Card” system enables us to fully enjoy the convenience and speed brought by high-tech information technology. We should spare no effort to continue to promote it, so that university libraries and even the entire university campus will truly become the most successful high-tech information construction and application. The model.
