Terminal container management is a headache for many managers. Before RFID technology was used, the collection card could only pass through a limited number of channels and monitoring areas. When using gantry cranes or cranes to load and unload containers, because the equipment operator is far away from the container, in order to accurately find the designated container, it is usually necessary to use a telescope to find and view the container information. Even so, there will often be cases of wrong loading, wrong unloading, and wrong shipping of containers, which makes terminal container management very inefficient.

  client needs:

With the expansion of business needs, customers hope to accurately track the trucks loaded with containers, know the current location of each truck or container, such as which door is passing through, or in which monitoring area, which port cranes and gantry cranes are loading and unloading Which container on the truck waits.

  Solution:

Through the application of RFID technology, customer needs can be well resolved. When the truck passes the terminal service station, OCR image recognition technology can read the container number and truck number. The RFID tag is installed on the container and on the back of the truck’s bumper, and the container number and truck number identified by OCR are written into the corresponding RFID tag at the gate or cargo yard. At the same time, install RFID reading and writing equipment on the hoisting equipment. In the process of container loading and unloading, the database will collect and analyze OCR and RFID information to accurately determine which container should be placed on which truck or which container should be unloaded at which location in the yard.

A total of 350 RFID readers and 10,000 i-B2 L tags were used in the whole project. The readers were installed on the entrance and exit of the terminal, cranes and gantry cranes, while the RFID tags were installed on trucks and containers.

  User benefits:

After using RFID technology to manage containers and trucks, each entrance and exit checkpoint can accurately identify each truck that passes through. After each truck enters the working area of the terminal, an accurate and detailed driving route map can be obtained through this system.

After the implementation of the project, the container loading and unloading process has been more visualized, and the terminal container loading and unloading speed and management efficiency have been greatly improved.

DNETEC SOLUTIONS simultaneously applied the above technologies on the route from Seattle Port to Alaska in the United States.
