Data from the aviation industry shows that in recent years, the world’s air traffic has been increasing, and it is expected to maintain an annual growth rate of 6% from 2008. However, due to the continuous increase in aviation fuel costs in recent years, the cost of airlines has increased significantly. Profitability is further weakened. It is against this background that, in order to reduce airline operating costs, simplify relatively cumbersome business processes, and facilitate passenger travel, the International Air Transport Association has proposed a “simplified business” initiative to the entire industry. “Simplified business” aims to help Airlines reduce operating costs, improve service quality and service efficiency, and passenger self-check-in service (CUSS) products have become the first choice of airlines.

Airport self-service check-in is a new check-in method that is different from traditional airport counters with manual check-in procedures. Passengers who use self-service check-in only need to put the “second-generation ID card” on the self-check-in ID card reader or scan the two-dimensional bar code electronic graphic of the mobile phone in the bar code scanning area, and the screen will automatically display what they are taking. For the flight number and related information, passengers only need to follow the prompts, choose their favorite seat on the passenger plane and print the boarding pass and invoice. This service shortens the waiting time of passengers at the counter, and the entire process is completely operated by passengers themselves. It is a brand-new DIY check-in method. At the same time, passengers have the autonomy to choose seats to the greatest extent, thus realizing a high-quality self-service experience. The goal of deepening e-ticket business and simplifying commerce has been achieved.

System principle

The self-service check-in equipment system of an airport in China is equipped with EVOC MEC-9002 as the main control unit. It exchanges information with the upper layer through a network interface and is controlled by the serial port of the whole machine (second-generation ID card reader, passport reader, two-dimensional bar code) Scanners, civil aviation membership card readers, etc.), small printers to print boarding passes, VGA-connected display screens as user operation interfaces, and DVI ports to play video advertisements, thus maximizing its commercial interests. At the same time, labor costs are saved.
