Current problems in clinical blood transfusion

At present, the blood transfusion process in many hospitals is not standardized, and the blood matching report is outdated; the operating department does not follow the “Clinical Blood Transfusion Technical Specification”, “Surgery and Traumatic Transfusion Guide” and other documents for blood transfusion; the clinical blood transfusion management committee is organized but lacks activities and has not Play its due role; the blood transfusion rules and regulations formulated by the hospital lack training, and have not made the three parties of doctors, nurses, and technicians well-known. These problems lead to ineffective blood transfusion treatment and even “wrong blood transfusion” accidents occur from time to time and the responsibility is difficult to define. They are major factors that cause loss of patient life safety and cause medical disputes. The reason is that hospital blood transfusion departments generally rely on manual operations and lack high-tech clinical blood monitoring methods. Errors caused by “human” factors such as imperfect systems, fatigue and laziness of staff are inevitable.

  New solution

Innovatively, by introducing radio frequency technology, each bag of blood is incorporated into the Internet of Things architecture to realize automated supervision of blood storage to patient use, overcome dependence on manual operations, and minimize errors caused by “human” factors. At the same time, the whole process of blood quality can be traced back, and the traceability problem that has been plagued by blood quality management has been solved. In addition, the handover of blood samples is also completed through RFID tags and smart reading devices, which can quickly complete the handover of blood samples, reduce the workload and time of handover, and reduce the error rate.

 Blood sample management

Manage the whole life cycle of blood sample detection and storage in and out of the warehouse through RFID recognition technology, improve work efficiency and reduce error rate.

Blood products in and out management

Manage the in and out process of blood products through RFID identification technology. The use of RFID target guns can complete the high-speed batch storage and exit of blood products, and the use of smart refrigerator monitoring modules can accurately locate the location of each bag of blood, and at the same time reflect the inventory of each refrigerator in real time.

  Inventory counting function

Through the batch inventory function of RFID equipment, it is possible to quickly confirm the difference between actual inventory and theoretical inventory, and identify specific blood bags that are missing or recorded errors.

Studies have shown that through the rational use of high-tech clinical blood monitoring methods, the work efficiency of the blood transfusion department can be increased dozens of times while eliminating the soil for “mistransfusion” accidents. At present, Hongcheng Innovation and Beijing Hospital are carrying out empirical scientific research cooperation, aiming to verify the efficiency and reliability of this solution in the hospital’s clinical blood transfusion management. The solution will be promoted in many well-known tertiary hospitals.
